Dexter Forbes

Dexter Forbes is a Canadian guitarist, audio engineer, and cinematographer based in Toronto, Ontario. He is best known as the founder of the technical death metal band Apogean.

With deep roots in thrash, death, black, and progressive metal, Dexter has been active in the heavy music scene from a young age. In 2006, he studied music in the Netherlands, where he also performed with the black metal band Hymir, before returning to Canada to complete his audio engineering training at the Toronto Audio Recording Academy (TARA).

After spending several years working in professional studios, Dexter expanded into visual media and launched his own production company, Wavelens Media, in 2021. That same year, he formed Apogean and self-released their debut EP Into Madness through Blood Blast Distribution. The EP was later remastered and re-released in December after the band signed with The Artisan Era. 

Their full-length debut Cyberstrictive followed in March 2024, with most tracks accompanied by self-produced music videos in collaboration with filmmaker Matt Hamilton. The band also released an official tab book through Sheet Happens Publishing, featuring exclusive content. Now touring alongside established acts, Apogean is currently working on new material.
