Build Process

It Begins Here

Mathematics plays a pivotal role in guitar making, where precision matters down to the half thousandths.

Every aspect, from String Gauges to Outer Offsets and Scale lengths, is meticulously calculated.

When you work with me, Brett Bailey, you receive personalized attention. I collaborate directly with each buyer to discern the specific features and details you desire, ensuring that together we formulate the blueprint for your dream guitar.

Design

Every design undergoes meticulous planning and execution, ensuring unwavering diligence in playability, sound, weight, appearance, physics, and ergonomics.

Utilizing our specialized CAD/CAM software, we meticulously consider every intricate detail before developing the manufacturing process.

Moreover, each design incorporates proprietary inlaid pickup trims, adding a unique touch to every instrument.

Materials for guitar building

Material

Our wood selection process is meticulous, following a strict criteria that considers weight, grain pattern, color, moisture content, and structural integrity.

Ninety percent of the wood we assess is rejected as unsuitable for our standards.

Once selected, each piece undergoes a minimum of six months in our Library, allowing it to fully acclimatize and de-stress before entering production.

Equipment for guitar building

Computer Precision

By employing our CNC manufacturing techniques, we achieve the utmost precision in dimensions.

Our computer-driven approach ensures timely and scalable results, guaranteeing accuracy in every aspect of production.

Hand Perfection

Nothing can replace the human touch – the hallmark of craftsmanship. After achieving an exact fit, our instruments undergo meticulous hand sanding to ensure perfection in smoothness and the ability to accept the most accurate color finish.

While labor-intensive and time-consuming, this step is crucial in producing truly flawless results and serves as our signature touch.

Finish

POLYURETHANE

We utilize an exceptionally durable high solids polyurethane for our spray finishes, which can be tinted to achieve any color for a translucent finish or used as a top coat over your preferred color.

Similarly, our Maple and Poplar Burl Tops can undergo the same process, enhanced with intensely vivid and deeply penetrating dyes.

NATURAL OIL

To achieve a closer-to-the-wood feel, we apply a distinctive blend of oils and waxes that deeply penetrates the wood, effectively sealing and safeguarding it. This process maintains a natural finish that enhances the wood grain without compromising its texture or appearance.

Following two days of hang drying in a controlled environment, we embark on a week-long proprietary finishing process, ensuring unparalleled durability and exceptional quality.

Fret work

Before installing the frets, we meticulously level the fingerboards and verify the compound radius. The fretwire is then carefully installed and filed flush to the edge of the neck with a slight bevel introduced.

During assembly, the guitars are placed under string tension for two weeks. The frets are leveled with the strings on, under full tension and in playing position.

When everything is executed correctly up to this point, minimal material removal is needed from the tops of the frets.

Subsequently, the frets are crowned to a razor-thin sliver, and the ends are delicately rounded to a hemisphere.

After inspection, the fingerboard is masked off, and the frets are polished on all sides using a range of grits from 320 to 12,000. This high polish not only safeguards against corrosion and enhances material durability but also maintains a mirror-like quality.

Set-up

There's no substitute for a guitar set up exactly to the player's preferences. This step is guided by the player, employing precision tools and meticulous standards. We guarantee that your guitar arrives to you with flawless playability.
